Take a stand for the sanctity of marriage

August 01, 2003

Dear Editor:

On Wednesday, President Bush said, "I believe in the sanctity of marriage," and he said, "I believe that marriage is between a man and a woman, and I think we ought to codify that one way or the other."

Although this stance becomes less politically correct each passing year, I want to applaud President Bush for his stance on this very important issue.

In the beginning of creation, God took a rib from Adam and made a woman for him. God said, "For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother, and be joned to his wife; and they shall become one flesh."

God designed, established and honors marriage and the Bible says, "Marriage should be honored by all."

I encourage you to let President Bush know that you support his stance on marriage by going to the Web site

I also encourage you to contact your representative and let them know if you support the Federal Marriage Amendment (FMA) in which marriage would be defined as only between a man and a woman. This is an important issue for our families, our children and our nation. The Bible says, "Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people."

Let us stand together (with our president) for the sanctity of marriage.

Harold Best
