Bridge work under way on U.S. 150

August 06, 2003

Traffic is being merged into one lane on U.S. 150 as road crews replace the deck of Hanging Fork Bridge between Danville and Stanford.

The southbound bridge has been narrowed to one lane to allow crews to strip the current deck and replace joints, said Rodney Little, District 8 construction engineer. The project is part of routine bridge maintenance and could be completed as early as September.

"Their specified completion date is Nov. 15, but we don't expect it to take that long," said Little.

DeLong Concrete LLC of Lexington will redeck the southbound and northbound bridges at a cost of $179,812.

While the latex overlay will help protect the bridge deck from damage, it will also smooth the ride over the bridge.

"It's more of a convenience," said Neal Shoemaker, District 8 bridge engineer.
