GIRLS

BOYLE COUNTY

Coach: Brian Deem

2002 record: 15-3

Top returnees: Joanna Frauenhoffer, Sr. F; Marissa Hibbs, Jr. MF; C.C. Leffew, Sr. Def.; Marianna Richardson, Sr. F; Tiffany Webb, Sr. GK.

Analysis: Boyle is coming off an appearance in the regional finals, but the Rebels have been infused with a large collection of freshmen. Thirteen newcomers have joined the team, and Deem said the question of chemistry is the million dollar query. But once that comes together and the Rebels start playing "County Ball," they plan on making it to the state tournament.

Coach's comments: "All I care about, and I've told the girls this, is where we're at come October. It doesn't matter where you're at in August or September, it's where you're at in October because that's when you play for the hardware."

DANVILLE

Coach: Marty Sullivan

2002 record: 9-10

Top returnees: Krystal Jackson, Sr. GK/F; Julie Johnson, Jr. Def; Rosa Magana, Sr. MF; Dawn Schulz, Jr. F; Alyssa Trueblood, So. Sweeper.

Analysis: Danville will be replacing six starters, but it will be doing it with some speed. The Admirals are a quick bunch, with a huge junior class of 12. Danville missed out on the region after a heart-breaking loss in the district playoffs last year. Sullivan said that the time that was invested in the younger players last season will hopefully pay off this time around.

Coach's comments: "I'm looking forward to having a competitive team and one that is going to try to get back involved in the district race again."

GARRARD COUNTY

Coach: Tony Kluesener

2002 record: 8-9

Top returnees: Chelsea Denny, Jr. F; Abby Parsons, Jr. D; Jordan Bastin, Jr. MF; Ashley Meadows, So. GK.

Analysis: Garrard faces an uphill battle this season after graduating seven seniors. However, Kluesener has a strong group of juniors, including Denny, Parsons and Bastin, that he said is ready to take on the challenge. Meadows is in goal for her second season and Kluesener said he is confident she will do well. Garrard also adds senior Brittany Lane, who will play soccer for the first time.

Coach's comments: "It's going to be a year of rebuilding. We have a solid junior class that has come ready to play."

LINCOLN COUNTY

Coach: Jennifer Miller

2002 record: 4-12

Top returnees: Gwen Hardwick, Sr.; Brittany House, Jr.; Jenny Jones, So.; Erin Kelly, Sr.

Analysis: Miller is excited about the upside of her team, although it has a long way to go. The Patriots graduated seven seniors off last year's team, but Miller's first year should be a learning experience for all involved. Miller said she is counting on seniors Gwen Hardwick and Erin Kelly to help lead the team, while junior Brittany House and sophomore Jenny Jones will also contribute.

Coach's comments: "I am looking forward to this season. I think it's going to be exciting and we'll have a lot of fun."

MERCER COUNTY

Coach: Scott Dodson

2002 record: 8-11

Top returnees: Cala Alford, Sr. F; Erin Ashford, Jr. MF; Sarah Campbell, Def.; Chelsea Goodman, MF/F; Whitney Hill, MF; Erica Lee, Jr. Def.

Analysis: Mercer earned its first-ever regional berth last year, and will be looking to build on that success with a new coach. Dodson said he has seen enough from his team in his limited time with them to have high expectations for their success, based on the knowledge he said they have. Cala Alford, Erin Ashford, Chelsea Goodman and Whitney Hill are the team's main offensive options.

Coach's comments: "I'm real excited. With this being my first year coaching, I think that I'll enjoy the season as much as the girls will. I hope we have a lot of fun."
