Boyle's serving pays off in opening win

August 12, 2003

Boyle County opened up its home volleyball season by defeating Western Hills 25-14, 25-15 Monday.

The Rebels were able to take advantage of consistent serving to pick up the win using the new rally scoring method.

"It makes the game go a lot faster and there's a lot more pressure on serves," Boyle coach Dana Stigall said. "Good serving did help us tonight. We're getting our serves in very consistently."

Emily Rigney, Megan Lankford, Kate Edmiston and Bruna Lozano each had an ace, while Rachel Staub added three kills. Lankford, Erika Shell and Stephanie Sloan each had two kills.

Stigall credited seniors Rigney, Edmiston, Shell and Mandy Barrick for their leadership, and said Staub and Sloan, two sophomores, also played well.

"This was a total team effort," Stigall said. "We communicated well and everybody contributed. We're off to a great start and I'm very happy with how we played."
