Bob Allen buys Liberty Motors

LIBERTY - Bob and Kathy Allen of Danville have added the Chrysler and Jeep dealership to Bob Allen Chevrolet-Buick on Wallace Wilkinson Boulevard.

The Allens purchased the dealership from Harold "Red" Spears of Liberty Motors Inc., who had been the Chrysler dealer in town since 1965. The deal was closed July 31.

Spears will continue to operate his Massey Ferguson farm implements business on Wallace Wilkinson Boulevard.

With the purchase of the Chrysler franchise, the Allens now have the only new car dealership in Casey County.

"We're happy to be here," said Bob Allen, who purchased the Chevrolet and Buick dealership a year ago. "It's a great community."

He said Liberty is a good location since neither Columbia nor Russell Springs has a Chrysler dealership.

No changes are planned in the facilities at this time.

"We will remain as we are," said Allen. "We will use the same service department as the GM, Chevrolet and Buick uses."

One end of the property will be devoted to Chrysler vehicles.

"Hopefully, we will create a few more jobs," he said. "We plan to hire technicians to service Chryslers and a few more salespeople as we go on."

Allen said business has been good with the Chevrolet and Buick dealership, and with the addition of Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep products, the Bob Allen Motor Mall in Danville and the Liberty business can share products.

John Welsh is the general manager and in charge of daily operations at the Liberty dealership where 17 people are employed.

Allen has owned Bob Allen Motor Mall in Danville since 1989.
