Liberty councilman sets record straight

August 15, 2003|BRENDA S. EDWARDS

LIBERTY - Councilman Earl "Monk" Wilson told the Liberty City Council Wednesday night that he is not using a city employee and city equipment to mow his yard.

"Someone told me today that (someone said) I was using a city employee and city equipment to mow my yard," Wilson said. "That is untrue. I'd like for the person who said that to tell me that to my face."

Wilson said the only thing the city has done for him in the 16 years he's been on the council is to install a light on Trammel Street.

He said that Tim Wilson, who works for the city, uses his mower and one that Wilson owns to mow the lawn on the weekends, not while he is at work with the city.

In another matter, Councilman Larry Bowmer raised questions about collection of utility tap-on fees. He said after looking over the bills, he noticed some tap-on fees have not been paid.

The fees are to pay for the costs of materials plus 10 percent.

City Clerk Sharleen Rodgers said bills have been mailed to those not paying.

The council also named Garland Sharp to the city Housing Authority Commission.
