End of Summer Blow Out - 8-10 a.m. Aug. 30 at McDowell Wellness Center. Participants will enjoy a variety of classes, including step aerobics, spinning, yoga and water classes. Good For What Ails You - Begins Noon-1 p.m. Aug. 26 and continues each Tuesday and Thursday at McDowell Wellness Center. New exercise class for individuals beginning an exercise program and/or have been diagnosed with a condition in which aqua therapy is recommended. Will focus on range-of-motion exercises to help joint movement and muscle strengthening. The class will be provided in a supervised and safe environment by instructors who are certified by the Multiple Sclerosis Society's aquatics program. Mat Pilates - Begins 6:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m. Aug. 26 and continues each Tuesday and Thursday for six weeks at McDowell Wellness Center. The instructor is Marlene Settles. Focuses on core training for abdominals, hips, thighs, buttocks and lower back. Uses your own body weight for resistance and concentrates on improving flexibility, posture, stamina and overall strength through smooth, controlled, low-impact movements. Fitnastics - Begins 10:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m Aug. 26 and continues every Tuesday and Thursday for six weeks at McDowell Wellness Center. The instructor is Sherry Persol. Involves rhythmic movement set to music. It provides an aerobic workout without jumping. Participants also will do a mat workout, concentrating on the legs and abdomen. Power in the Pool - Begins 7:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m. Aug. 26 and continues each Tuesday and Thursday for six weeks at McDowell Wellness Center. Susan Cunningham is the instructor. A 45-minute program of stretching, aerobic conditioning, strength training and relaxation. Exercising in the water allows individuals to participate at their own pace.
