Remains of man found in Casey well identified

August 17, 2003

LIBERTY - The skeletal remains found June 18 in a dug well near the Teddy community have been identified as those of Kevin Gilpin, according to Casey County Coroner Tommy Clark.

Gilpin, who had lived in the Gilpin community, was last seen about six years ago when his father, Gary Gilpin, dropped him off at a pool hall in an adjoining county. He would have been about18 years old at the time of death.

The remains were discovered in a 12-foot dug well on Luttrell Creek Road. Workmen were cleaning the well that apparently had not been used for several years.

Clark said it appeared the body had been thrown into the well, then two sacks of rock had been tossed in. A concrete block with a rope tied to it was found close to the remains, he said.

The well had reportedly been dug more than 50 years ago and used to water livestock. The well is on the Mark Cheesman property.

State police have been investigating the incident. Anyone with information is asked to call the state police at 1-800-222-5555.
