LANCASTER - A pair of second-half goals made the difference Monday as the Garrard County girls defeated Lincoln County 3-1 on the opening day of the high school soccer season.
Chelsea Denny broke a 1-1 tie when she scored for Garrard about six minutes into the second half. Abby Parsons put the game out of reach by scoring with about four minutes to play.
The Lady Lions also got a goal from Brittany Lane about 10 minutes into the first half, but Lincoln matched that on Brittany House's goal with 16:34 remaining in the half.
Garrard outshot Lincoln 15-9. Ashley Meadows had three saves in goal for Garrard; Kayla Albright had five for Lincoln.
