August 20, 2003

Winners of the photography contest held by the Danville-Boyle County Convention & Visitors Bureau are:

First place, John Snell of Lexington with his photo of a mother and child on a slide at Boyle County Fair; second place, Clay Jackson of Danville with his photo of the crowd at the Great American Brass Band Festival 2003; and third place, Emily Toadvine of Forkland with her photo of the costume winner at the Forkland Festival.

Jackson is chief staff photographer for The Advocate-Messenger, and Toadvine is features editor.

Twenty-one honorable mentions also were awarded to photographs by Snell, Jackson, John Robinson and Scott Wethington.

More than 75 photographs were submitted for judging. "We were nearly overwhelmed with the excellent shots that were submitted in this contest," said Kay Berggren, executive director. "What we discovered is that we have excellent professional photographers living and working here in our community. We thank these talented artists for their submissions, all of which will be used in promotional materials to market this area to potential visitors."
