Why pave roads during viaduct project?

August 21, 2003

Dear Editor:

Recently we have had some construction going on in our neighborhood. The viaduct is being rebuilt, which has put a strain on traffic flow through all parts of town. But we are managing to get through it. However, during these same events, Maple Avenue and Main Street were chosen to be repaved. Two perfectly good roads in great condition "needed to be repaved." I do not get it.

Of all the roads that are in disrepair in this town, two of the roads in better condition were selected to be repaved. Who got to make this chioce?

Our money should have been spent paving Maple Avenue starting at the train overpass going to U.S. 127. That is the part that needed paving. There are potholes as big as car tires. Some have been filled in, making driving even worse. I'm surprised all who drive on this stretch of road have any good suspension in their vehicles, or inflated tires.
