Jack C. Zanone

LANCASTER - Services for former Lancaster businessman Jack C. Zanone, 82, of Hagan Court will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Ramsey Funeral Home by the Revs. Bryce McCulley and Joseph Hood. Burial will be in Lancaster Cemetery.

He died Monday at his home.

He was a founder and manager of Lancaster Department Store and former director of First Lancaster Federal Savings Bank. He also was a former member of Lancaster City Council and the Garrard County Board of Education. He was a member of Lancaster Lodge 104 F&AM, all Danville York Rite Bodies and Oleika Shrine Temple.

He was a past president of Wilderness Shrine and Garrard County Chamber of Commerce. He also was a member and elder at Lancaster Christian Church and an Army Air Force veteran of World War II.


Born May 5, 1921, in Garrard County, he was the son of the late Charles and Bessie Layton Zanone.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Wooton Zanone; two sons, Wesley Zanone of Lexington and Dan Zanone of Flagstaff, Ariz.; a daughter, Carolyn Royalty of Harrodsburg; a sister, Anna Colson of Campbellsville; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be David Gay, Neal Carrier, June Carrier, Tony Merida, Jimmy Sanders and David Moss.

Visitation is 6-9 p.m. today.

Memorials may go to Heritage Hospice, Lancaster Christian Church or Shriners Children's Hospital.

James H. Layton

ROME, Ga. - James Hyatt "Jim" Layton, 66, of Rome died Monday.

Born Sept. 26, 1936, in Lancaster, he was the son of Virgie Mae Montgomery Layton of Danville and the late Hobart M. Layton. He attended Eastern Kentucky University and was an Army veteran.

He was executive director of Coosa Valley Regional Development Center and was known for his talent in architectural design.

He served on many local, regional and state boards.

Other survivors include his wife, Mary Doris Owen Layton; a daughter, Merrian Layton Hiett of Macon, Ga.; two sons, William C. Layton of Atlanta and James C. Layton of Rome; three brothers, J.D. Layton and Mack Layton, both of Danville, and Russell Layton of Somerset; and two granddaughters.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at North Broad Baptist Church by Rev. Bill Adams and J. Parnick Jennings Sr.

Burial will be in Floyd Memory Gardens with military rites by Shanklin-Attaway Post 5, American Legion.

Visitation is 6-9 p.m. today.

Jennings Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.


Elva Floyd

LIBERTY - Services for Elva Bernice "Pete" Floyd, 67, of Yosemite will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Bartle Funeral Home by the Revs. Ron Robinson and Jessie Wesley.

Burial will be in Payton Cemetery.

She died Tuesday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Born Aug. 11, 1936, in Casey County, she was the daughter of the late Ben W. and Bertha Downs Payton.

She was a homemaker and the widow of William Beal, Frank Bowlin and Garland Floyd.

Survivors include two daughters, Emojean Bowlin of Yosemite and Bernadine Firkins of Stanford; two sons, Kenny Beal of Austin, Ind., and Dennis Beal of Dunnville; three brothers, Junior Payton of Indianapolis, Eugene Payton of Liberty and Woody Long of Hopkinsville; four sisters, Gracie Lynn, Ethel Payton and Pina Adams, all of Indianapolis, and Velvia Wagner of Yosemite; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Benny Beal.

Visitation is 6-9 p.m. today and after 8 a.m. Thursday.

Geraldine L. Moore

MORELAND - Services for Geraldine Laura Moore, 70, of Junction City will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Worldstown Church of God. Burial will be in Junction City Cemetery.

She died Tuesday at her home.

Born June 24, 1933, in Cincinnati, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Aline Clark. She was retired from Palm Beach Co. and also had worked as a home health aid.

She was a member of Worldstown Church of God and the widow of Everett Moore.

Survivors include three daughters, Barbara S. Noble of Alexandria; Teresa J. Russell of Gravel Switch and Rose M. Sears of Junction City; three sons, Everett W. Moore, George R. Moore and William L. Moore, all of Junction City; three brothers, Richard, John and Everett Clark, all of Newport; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Richard, John and Everett Clark, Issac and Jimmy Moore and Nick Goode.

Visitation is 6-9 p.m. today at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home.

Memorials may go to Heritage Hospice.

Barbara A. Newby

LANCASTER - Services for Barbara Ann Newby, 59, of Buckeye Road will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Fellowship Pentecostal Church by the Revs. Jim Cook and Jerry Browning. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She died Tuesday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Born May 2, 1944, in Garrard County, she was the daughter of the late Burnam and Cora Gilliam Cornelius. She was a homemaker.
