One arrested after fistfight

August 29, 2003

A fistfight in the parking lot of Backyard Creations on Hustonville Road Thursday afternoon sent a man to the hospital and resulted in assault and disorderly conduct charges against him.

City police officers were dispatched to Backyard Creations at 12:44 p.m. after receiving reports of a fight in progress. Officer Jonathan Courtwright said he found Stephen Woehler, 52, of 129 Maplewood Drive, Lancaster, on top of Keith Ransdell, 32, of 206 E. Mason Ave., hitting him in the face. Ransdell is the owner of Backyard Creations.

Courtwright odered them to stop fighting, and when they continued, he broke up the fight and ordered the two to lie on the ground. Both Woehler and Ransdell were handcuffed and given aid by Boyle County Emergency Medical Service.

The police report said both Ransdell and Woehler gave a similar account of the altercation, which began when Woehler and his son entered Backyard Creations and a verbal argument ensued between Woehler and Ransdell. Ransdell allegedly punched Woehler in the nose, and the fight continued until officers arrived.
