Woman dies in crash on U.S. 150

A a 23-year-old Lexington woman died in a fatal car crash three miles west of Danville on U.S. 150 Saturday.

According to state police, Jenny Martin was traveling east on U.S. 150 in a 1999 Toyota Corolla at 9:45 a.m. when her car was struck by another vehicle driven by Joseph J. Tonna, 72, of Perryville.

Tonna was traveling east on U.S. 150 in a 2000 Mercury Mountaineer when he hydroplaned while attempting to pass two vehicles. Tonna lost control of his truck and struck Martin's car in the driver's side quarter panel, according to police.

Tonna was transported to Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center, where he was treated and released. Martin suffered massive head injuries and was also taken to Ephraim. She was later transported to University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead by John McCarty, Fayette County deputy coroner.

Trooper Mark Young investigated the accident and was assisted by Trooper Chris Lanham.
