Garrard defeats Harrison 33-7

August 31, 2003

CYNTHIANA - Spencer Crutchfield passed for two touchdowns and ran for another one as Garrard County beat host Harrison County 33-7 Friday night.

The game was delayed about three hours because of lightning and the second half did not start until 11:30 p.m.

"It made for a three-hour halftime," said Garrard coach Steve Stonebraker. "We had a 13-7 lead, but I was worried we might come back out, they would score, the lightning would start again and they would get the win. I was really glad we got the first score of the second half."

Garrard (1-1) fell behind 7-0 in the first period before Crutchfield, a junior, threw 12 yards to Chris Clark and 19 yards to Jake Cool for second-quarter touchdowns.

After a scoreless third period, the Golden Lions tallied 19 points in the fourth quarter. Crutchfield ran 14 yards for the first score, Cool ran six yards for the second one and Ryan Hulett returned a fumble 27 yards for the final touchdown. Corey Horn added his second conversion kick after Cool's score.

Crutchfield rushed 24 times for 98 yards and was 11-for-19 passing for 140 yards. Tim Quisenberry gained 68 yards on 13 carries, Bruce Williams 26 on four and Cool 14 on three. Cool also had four receptions for 42 yards, Clark two for 26 and Brandon Sebastian three for 47.

Quisenberry led the defense with six tackles that included two tackles for loss and two quarterback sacks. He also caused a fumble and recovered a fumble. Clark had seven tackles and Daniel Baker got his first interception. Garrard held Harrison to 116 total yards.

"It was a good win, and one that we really needed," Stonebraker said. "Our kids played well. It was a long night, but it would have been a lot longer if we had let the win get away."
