J.M. Russell

PERRYVILLE - J.M. Russell of Hardee Street died today at Jewish Hospital in Louisville. He was the father of Janice Purdy of Louisville. Arrangements are incomplete at Wilder Funeral Home.

Clifton Brewer

LANCASTER - Clifton Brewer, 78, of Oxford, Ohio, died Monday.

Born Aug. 26, 1925, in Bond, he was the son of Sam and Gracie Maupin Brewer. He was an employee of Champion Papers Co., city of Fairfield, Ohio, and village of New Miami, Ohio. He had been a special deputy with the Butler County, Ohio, Sheriff's Office. He had served with the 5th Marine Division at Iwo Jima during World War II.

Survivors include two daughters, Joyce Ponder of Oxford, Ohio, and Berea Holmes of Springdale, Ark.; two brothers, Lloyd Brewer of Fort Myers, Fla., and Dewey Brewer of Buena Vista, Ga., two sisters, Olga King of McKee and Mary Jane Jones of Berea; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.


Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Ramsey Funeral Home by the Rev. Everett Priddy. Burial will be in Manse Cemetery.

Visitation will be noon Saturday until service time.

Lindsay R. Lynn

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. - Lindsay R. Lynn, 57, of Hilton Head Island died Monday at his home.

Born July 7, 1946, in Danville, he was the son of the late Samuel and Christine Rankin Lynn. He was an account executive with Coca-Cola Co. for 30 years.

Survivors include his wife, Nell Morton Lynn; two daughters, Robin Meinders of Parkland, Fla., and Christine Jones of Edmond, Okla.; a brother, Sam Lynn of Marietta, Ga.; and five grandchildren.

Services were today at St. Francis Catholic Church by the Rev. Michael McCafferty. Burial was in St. Frances Columbarium.

Memorials may go to Hospice Care of the Lowcountry, 20 Palmetto Parkway, Suite 104, Hilton Head Island, S.C. 29926.

Island Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Jean R. McCarthy

BAINBRIDGE, Ga.- Jean Ross McCarthy, 86, of Bainbridge died Tuesday at her home.

Born Jan. 4, 1917, in Winfield, Tenn., she was the daughter of the late William R. and Bessie Creekmore Ross. She was a nursing assistant, homemaker and member of Winfield Missionary Baptist Church. She was the widow of Walter "Mac" McCarthy.

Survivors include a daughter, Abbie Dollar of Bainbridge; a brother, James D. Ross of Danville; a sister, Edna F. Tymensky of Danville; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Oak City Cemetery by the Rev. Leroy C. Spinks.

Visitation is 6:30-7:30 p.m. today at Ivey Funeral Home and 8-9 p.m. today at the home of her daughter, Abbie Dollar.

Harmon Smith

STANFORD - Harmon Smith, 87, of Stanford died Wednesday at home. He was the widower of Alice Peace Smith. Arrangements are incomplete at Spurlin Funeral Home.


Catherine Cox

LIBERTY - Services for Catherine Cox, 70, of Liberty will be 1 p.m. Friday at Bartle Funeral Home by Gary Lavender and Tommy Schooler. Burial will be in Peyton Cemetery.

She died Tuesday at University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center.

Born Feb. 27, 1933, in Casey County, she was the daughter of the late Everett and Ruby Dell Peyton Shoopman.

She was a homemaker and the widow of William H. Cox.

Survivors include two daughters, Diana Hodge of Somerset and Patricia Cox of Liberty; three brothers, Rufus, Jesse and William Shoopman, all of Liberty; three sisters, Geraldine McGuire of Lancaster, Evelyn Cochran of Liberty and Carolyn Dorris of Nicholasville; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by a son, Ronnie D. Cox.

Pallbearers will be Larry and Terry Cochran, Cameron Griffith, Joe McGuire, Steve Dorris and Brian Woolwine.

Visitation is 6-9 p.m. today and after 8 a.m. Friday.

Kennie Spaw

WAYNESBURG - Services for Kennie Spaw, 50, of Old South Fork Road, Kings Mountain, will be 2 p.m. Friday at Barnett & Demrow Funeral Home by Vola Brown.

Burial will be in Pilot Cemetery.

He died Wednesday at the home of his mother.

Born Nov. 20, 1952, in Waynesburg, he was the son of Bea Shelton Staton of Kings Mountain and the late Kenneth L. Spaw. He was a mechanic.

Survivors include his wife, Tina Wilson Spaw of Richmond; three sons, Rusty Spaw of Indianapolis; Chad Spaw of California, and William K. Spaw Jr. of Kings Mountain; four daughters, Shannon Lambert of Indianapolis, Jamie L. Spaw and Tessa Spaw, both of Kings Mountain, and Amber Spaw of California; two brothers, Kernie Spaw and John Staton, both of Kings Mountain; two sisters, Karen Allen of Waynesburg and Kathy Spaw of Indianapolis; and seven grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Charlie Brown, Garry Dortch, Rocky Murray, Dale Smith, Donnie Shackelford and Larry Bastin,.

Visitation is 6-9 p.m. today.
