Nora R. Dees

MORELAND -Nora Rice Dees, 102, of Stanford died Thursday at Stanford House nursing home.

Arrangements are incomplete at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home.


J.M. Russell

PERRYVILLE - Services for J.M. Russell, 87, of Hardee Street will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Beech Grove Baptist Church by the Revs. Wendell Romans, Daniel Wilson and Bobby Estes.

Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery.

He died Thursday at Jewish Hospital in Louisville.

Born March 28, 1916, in Washington County, he was the son of the late Charlie and Katie Carpenter Russell.

He was a banker with Old Bank in Perryville, then was manager of the Mackville branch of Springfield State Bank, later retiring from Springfield State Bank.


He was a member of Beech Grove Baptist Church where he taught the men's Sunday school class for 50 years and was a deacon. He was past master of Magnolia Masonic Lodge in Mackville and was the widower of Betsy Leonard Russell.

Survivors include a daughter, Janice Purdy of Louisville; three sisters, Dorothy Wallace of Louisville, Geneva Warfield of Tennessee, and Violet Warner of Burgin; a brother, Charles Russell Jr. of Willisburg; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Judith C. Russell.

Pallbearers will be Billy and Mike Russell, Charles Russell III, Russell and Charles Ed Bledsoe, Alex Lindsey, Harry Harmon and Tony Warner. Honorary pallbearers are Timothy Lindsey, members of Russell's Sunday school class, and deacons of Beech Grove Church.

Visitation will be 5-9 p.m. Saturday at Wilder Funeral Home with a Masonic service at 7 p.m. Saturday, after 8 a.m. Sunday at the funeral home, and after 1 p.m. Sunday at the church.

Harmon P. Smith

STANFORD - Services for Harmon P. Smith, 87, of Stanford will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Spurlin Funeral Home by the Revs. Kit Yeaste and Jerry Browning. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.

He died Wednesday at home.

Born Dec. 25, 1915, in Garrard County, he was the son of the late John L. and Lena Rogers Smith.

He was a retired farmer and a member of the Farm Bureau Board of Directors. He also operated a Tack Shop at Boone Hardware Store. He was a charter member and deacon of Willow Grove Baptist Church. He was a Kentucky Colonel and had been given a citation by the state House of Representatives. He was the widower of Alice Peace Smith.

Survivors include a son, John T. Smith of Stanford; a daughter, Nancy S. Boone of Stanford; a brother, Ernest Smith of Stanford; a sister, Lizzie Rhodus of Paint Lick; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, James H. Smith.

Pallbearers will be Greg, Roy, Todd, Tim and Mike Smith, Leroy Boone, Jim Ray and Frank Lett.

Visitation is 5-9 p.m. today and after 8:30 a.m. Saturday.
