LIBERTY - Mayor Steve Sweeney assured city residents Wednesday night that the city will have police protection even though it has a shortage in police officers.
The city has one officer in training, one each on sick leave and administrative leave, and another who will be in military training soon. That leaves Chief Ron Whited to take care of business.
Sweeney said he will solicit help from the county and state during the shortage, which will only be for a week. "We will do everything to see that the town is safe," he said.
Sweeney said residents in the city pay taxes and are a part of Casey County. He said the city and county have a good working relationship. "We'll ask the county for help," he said.
