LIBERTY - A fire that destroyed a vacant house Sunday on Whipp Avenue was apparently set.
Liberty Fire Chief Donald Wilson said it appeared the fire was set in two upstairs closets and about five hours later in the attic.
The local volunteer fire department was called at 5:15 p.m. after a motorist saw smoke coming from the house. Wilson said firefighters extinguished the fire that appeared to have been set after someone broke into the house.
Firefighters left the house about 6:30 p.m. and Wilson went back to check on the fire about 10:30 p.m. and the fire was out.
