Boyle boys blank Model in 4th shutout

September 16, 2003

Goalkeeper Evan Rice and the Boyle County defense posted their fourth shutout in five victories this season as the Boyle boys defeated Model 4-0 Monday at Richmond.

Boyle coach Greg Conley said the Rebels (5-3-1) played much better against Model (4-5-2) than in their last game Thursday, a 4-4 tie with Frankfort.

"We had a lot of communication and a complete turnaround from the other game the other night," Conley said. "There were so many outstanding performances, I don't know where to start."

He started with the defense.

"Evan ... played a tremendous game ... and our defense played phenomenal," Conley said.

Conley also praised Boyle's passing.

"We were stringing passes together - I think we started off the game with a string of seven passes - and we cont to do that most of the first half, and by halftime it was 3-0," he said.

Nick Farmwald scored one of the first-half goals, sandwiched between goals by Jason Hopper on a corner kick and Roland Achenjang, and he scored again in the second half.

Madison Southern 3, Garrard County 0 - At Lancaster, Garrard (2-9) got off only three shots in suffering its ninth straight defeat.

It was the sixth straight game in which the Lady Lions were shut out.

Garrard goalkeeper Ashley Meadows had nine saves against Southern (4-4-1), which had 17 shots.

Delresha Hocker scored twice and Amber Stone scored once for Southern.
