Danville City Commissioner Ryan Owens just doesn't get it.
Instead of taking to heart the relatively gentle chiding he received from the Danville Board of Ethics, basically for interfering in personnel matters that should have been left up to the city manager, Owens hired a lawyer to try to get the ethics ruling overturned on a technicality.
The city commissioner further demonstrated his contempt for the system by failing to attend a recent training session conducted by the Kentucky League of Cities on the city manager form of government. The session was attended by city commissioners Chester Kavanaugh, Terry Crowley and Jamey Gay while Owens and Mayor John W.D. Bowling were no-shows.
In light of the controversy surrounding the forced resignation of former city manager Steve Biven, the training session was a good idea - a chance to clear the air and discuss some important issues - but Owens and Bowling apparently aren't interested in clearing the air, just muddying the water.
