A Boyle County woman was killed Friday morning when her vehicle left the roadway on Ky. 37 four miles from Junction City and struck a tree.
Rita Bowmer, 49, of Forkland, died after being transported by helicopter to the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center, said Boyle County Deputy Jim Wilcher.
Wilcher said the accident occurred at 7 a.m. Friday when the 1992 Chevrolet SUV driven by Bowmer hit a tree on a straight stretch of Ky. 37. Wilcher said Bowmer suffered injuries to her head and chest and had to be extricated from the vehicle.
The vehicle was registered to Alan Ellis of Gravel Switch, according to Wilcher.
Units from the Boyle County Sheriff's Department, Junction City Police Department, Boyle EMS and Kentucky State Police worked the accident, which blocked traffic in both directions on the highway for several hours, Wilcher said.
