BEREA - Spencer Crutchfield picked up 287 offensive yards and Garrard County held off a late Madison Southern rally for a 47-32 win Friday.

Crutchfield completed 12 of 20 passes for 163 yards and two touchdowns and also ran 18 times for 124 yards as Garrard (4-1) racked up 392 yards against the Eagles (2-2).

Madison Southern gained 309 yards against Garrard, but only 57 of them came on the ground.

"Our defense did a really good job against the run," Golden Lions coach Steve Stonebraker said. "Our pass defense was somewhat tested tonight, and we saw some things there that we need to improve."

Crutchfield, Brandon Sebastian and Tim Quisenberry each scored twice for Garrard, which jumped out to a 26-3 halftime lead. Crutchfield had two scoring runs of 27 yards each in the fourth quarter, Quisenberry scored from 16 and 6 yards out, and Sebastian caught two scoring passes of 21 and 25 yards.

Garrard's longest scoring play came on Daniel Barker's 96-yard intercepton return to start the second quarter.

Madison Southern drew within one score at 40-32 with six minutes to go, but Garrard was able to convert two fourth downs on its drive to a final touchdown.

On fourth-and-1, Crutchfield kept the ball for the first down and on a fourth-and-2, Crutchfield dumped the ball to Sebastian for the pickup.

Two plays later, Crutchfield scored from 27 yards out to set the final score.

"It was good for us to be able to make the plays we were able to make at the end to secure the victory," Stonebraker said. "It was good to get out with a win against a pretty good Madison Southern team."

Sebastian caught four passes for 70 yards, Jake Cool had three catches for 40 yards and Chris Clark caught three passes for 31 yards. Bruce Williams had one catch for 16 yards and Dan Leavell caught one pass for 6 yards.

Quisenberry picked up 108 yards on 14 carries and Williams had six carries for 35 yards.
