Laura Buchanan is Miss Casey County

LIBERTY - Laura E. Buchanan was named Miss Casey County 2003 Saturday night at the 49th annual pageant at high school gymnasium. She was crowned by last year's winner Hannah Atwood.

Buchanan also received the Community Service Award, based on her work in the community, and received $50.

She also received an all-expense paid trip to the Kentucky State Fair competition and Miss Kentucky County Fair pageants in Louisville. She also received $300, a crown, scepter, banner, one-year membership to Cundiff Wellness Center, $250 gift certificate to Debbrah's.

Buchanan is the 18-year-old daughter of Ronnie and Linda Buchanan of Liberty. She is a freshman at Somerset Community College and plans to major in dentistry at University of Kentucky.

Tina Price was named Miss Congeniality, from a vote from contestants. She received an engraved charm.

Iris N. Peyton was first runner-up. She is the 17-year-old daughter of Bill and Beverly Peyton of Hustonville. A senior at Casey County High School, she plans to attend Western Kentucky University.


Bridget C. Atwood was second runner-up, Lakita C. Johnson was third runner-up, and Jennifer J. Rockstroh was fourth runner-up. Peyton and Atwood each received $100.

Atwood, 20, daughter of J.C. and Karen Atwood, is a student at UK. Johnson, 16, daughter of L.C. and Barbara Johnson of Middleburg, is a junior at CCHS. She plans to attend UK.

Rockstroh, 16, daughter of Jeff and Tonia Gosser of Liberty and Joerg and Roswitha Rockstroh of Germany, is a junior at CCHS. She plans to attend Benjamin Franklin University in Berlin, Germany.

The contestants were judged on interview, swimsuit and evening gowns.

The pageant which kicked off the annual Casey County Apple Festival is sponsored by Liberty Kiwanis Club.
