Admirals beat Scott County

September 23, 2003

DANVILLE - Danville's girls scored four times in the final 10 minutes to put away visiting Scott County 6-0 Monday.

Krystal Jackson had a hat trick, scoring once in the first half and twice in the second, while McKenzie McAfee had two goals and two assists for the Admirals (6-5-1).

McAfee scored Danville's first goal in the 16th minute and had the assist on Jackson's first goal, a header, in the 30th minute.

It was another 40 minutes before the Ads would score again on Scott (3-7-3), but the goals came in a flurry. Alex Meckes scored on a penalty kick in the 70th minute after being taken down in the box, McAfee scored in the 72nd minute, then Jackson scored in the 75th and 79th minutes.

"It was a really nice effort all over the field tonight," Danville coach Marty Sullivan. "Our midfielders really advanced the ball and pushed it up to the offense quite a bit tonight. We really preached to them to advance the ball at whatever cost - quick diagonals to the open field to put pressure on the defense to chase us down.

"Tashaunda Walker did a real good job in the middle of the field defensively, Rosa Magana was solid at sweeper ... it was just an all-around good game."

Liz Ruth got the shutout in goal, and made a save on a penalty kick in the 71st minute to preserve it.

Danville had a 22-10 advantage on shots and a 4-1 advantage on penalty kicks.

The Admirals host Nelson County Wednesday.
