Lady Admirals beat Nelson 3-1

Krystal Jackson broke the single-season scoring record for the Danville girls Wednesday, scoring three goals in the Lady Admirals' 3-1 win over Nelson County at Admiral Stadium.

Jackson has scored 20 goals in 12 games this season - she played one game in goal - to break the old record set by Alyssa Thornton in 2001.

The senior scored once in the first half and twice in the second half Wednesday.

"When she gets one-on-one with people, they just don't know what to do with her," Danville coach Marty Sullivan said. "It was really something to see her go through people tonight."

Danville (7-5-1) won despite being outshot 21-13 by Nelson (6-5).

"They didn't have many quality shots," Sullivan said. "Our defense played their best game tonight, and Rosa (Magana) just directed traffic really well in the back."

Jackson scored in the second minute off a pass from McKenzie McAfee, but Danville gave up an own-goal later in the first half when a corner kick by Nelson's Whitney Mattingly was mishandled by goalkeeper Liz Ruth.

Jackson scored an unassisted goal in the 66th minute, then chipped a shot into the net in the 71st minute.

"This was a great win for us as we prepare for the (district) tournament," Sullivan said. "They beat us up pretty good (last year), and they've got a lot of the same players."
