A head-on collision Saturday morning in Boyle County claimed the life of a Lincoln County man and resulted in minor injuries to two other people.
Richard W. Smith, 62, of 5720 Danville Pike, Hustonville, was pronounced dead at 1:38 p.m. Saturday at University of Kentucky Medical Center, Lexington, after suffering massive chest injuries in the accident, said a representative of the Fayette County coroner's office today. Smith had been transported from the scene of the accident in west Boyle County to the UK hospital by a UK medical emergency helicopter.
Smith was heading west on Ky. 300 when his 1993 Chrevolet pickup truck crossed the double yellow line in a sharp curve near Hogue Hollow Road and hit head-on an eastbound 1994 Chrevolet pickup truck driven by Shannon Phegley, 37, of 3759 Alum Springs Road, according to a report by Boyle County Deputy Sheriff Al Isaacs. The accident occurred at 11:20 a.m., the report said.
