LIBERTY - A Casey County teenager died Sunday from a gunshot wound, state police said.
Josh Davis Grider, 13, of Rayborn Hill Road, Liberty, apparently died from an accidental wound to the head, according to a report by state police Detective Tony Wells.
Grider was reportedly handling a 20-gauge shotgun when it accidentally went off. He was pronounced dead at 6:10 p.m. by Coroner Tommy Clark at Casey County Hospital. An autopsy was scheduled today.
The accident occurred at 5 p.m. at the teen's residence.
Grider was transported to the hospital by Casey County Emergency Medical Service. A crew with a helicopter from University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center landed at Ky. 501 to airlift the victim, but after checking him assisted the local emergency personnel to the hospital, said Algie Atwood, EMS manager.
