McDowell raising awareness of breast cancer

September 30, 2003

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center is sponsoring a number of activities designed to heighten awareness of breast cancer and the importance of early detection.

A memory tree will be set up in the lobby during October. The tree will allow individuals to honor or remember their loved ones who have been affected by breast cancer. Pink slips of paper will be available at the base of the memory tree for individuals to write the name of their loved one on and then attach it to the tree.

McDowell also is distributing pink ribbons - the recognized symbol of the fight against breast cancer - throughout the month.

Mammography services are available at the hospital and Southtown Center, 101 Daniel Drive. Call (859) 239-1282. A mobile mammography unit travels to corporate and community sites in Boyle and 19 surrounding counties. Call (859) 239-1282 or toll-free (800) 328-6560.
