Nell Broyles

STANFORD - Services for Nell Broyles, 95, of Stanford, will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Fox Funeral Home by the Rev. G.W. Smith. Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.

She died Sunday at Stanford House nursing home.

Born June 13, 1908, in Pulaski County, she was the daughter of the late William E. and Leoma Catron Broyles. She was a retired licensed practical nurse, a Baptist, and the widow of Samuel Fritz.

Survivors include local cousins, Cheryl Rodgers of Casey County and Bill Catron of Lincoln County.

Visitation will be 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesday.

Maudie Fields

WAYNESBURG - Services for Maudie Fields, 82, of Waynesburg, will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Rose of Sharon Old Regular Baptist Church in Waynesburg by Charlie Fields, Murrell Caudill and Bob Whitaker. Burial will be in Clear Fork Cemetery.


She died Monday at Fort Logan Hospital.

Born May 17, 1921, in Letcher County, she was the daughter of the late Jim and Cindy Back. She was a homemaker, a member of Rose of Sharon Old Regular Baptist Church and the widow of Monroe Fields.

Survivors include a son, Edward Fields of Stanford; two daughters, Mildred Hammond of Somerset and Margaret O'Connor of Waynesburg; five brothers, Hubert Back of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Marion Back of Greensburg, Ind., Henry and Douglas Back, both of Middletown, Ohio, and Billy Dean Back of Blackey; eight grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by a son, Lorin Fields.

Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. today at Barnett & Demrow Funeral Home.

Verla M. Garner

STANFORD - Services for Verla M. Roberts Garner, 87, of Tucson, Ariz., formerly of Crab Orchard, will be 2 p.m. Friday at Fox Funeral Home by Gordon Tulley. Burial will be in Crab Orchard Cemetery.

She died Friday in Tucson.

Born Oct. 11, 1915, in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Georgia A. Adams Roberts. She was an employee of Douglas Aircraft, a member of Ajo Baptist Church in Tucson, and the widow of Charles R. Garner.

Survivors include two sons, Raymond Garner and Fred Garner, both of Tucson; two daughters, Margaret Smith and Ruby Howard, both of Salvisa; 20 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and 19 great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be John Howard, Jimmy Howard, Freddie Garner, Jim Garner, William Garner and Will Hisoire.

Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Thursday.

Josh Grider

LIBERTY - Services for Josh Davis Grider, 13, of Liberty, will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Bartle Funeral Home by Phillip Smallwood. Burial will be in Clear Springs Cemetery.

He died Sunday at Casey County Hospital.

Born April 14, 1990, in Somerset, he was the son of Tracy Shell Grider of Liberty and Jeffrey D. Grider of Berea. He was a student at Casey County Middle School.

Other survivors include his stepmother, Nancy Grider of Berea; grandparents, Lillian Grider of Russell Springs and Shelburn and Norma Jean Meeks of Liberty.

Visitation will be after 11 a.m. Thursday.
