William C. Martz

William C. Martz, 60, of Liberty, died Tuesday Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center. Arrangements are incomplete at Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home.

Rita C. Craddock

MORELAND - Rita Ann Crumley Craddock, 62, of Hustonville, formerly of Johnson City, Tenn., died Monday at Charleston Health Care Center in Danville.

Born June 4, 1941, in Johnson City, she was the daughter of the late Elmer and Thelma Schubert Crumley. She was a retired administrative assistant, a member of First Baptist Church of Elizabethton, Tenn., and Order of Eastern Star.

Survivors include a son, Ralph W. Craddock Jr. of Atlanta, Ga.; a daughter, Debra K. Craddock-Taylor of Hustonville; and two grandchildren.


A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Wesley United Methodist Church in Johnson City.

Visitation will be noon Friday until time of service.

William R. Hampton

LIBERTY - William Robert Hampton, 63, of Hwy. 49, died Tuesday at his home.

Born Nov. 8, 1939, in Casey County, he was the son of the late John and Ethel Mae King Hampton. He was a farmer, an Army veteran and a member of Atwood Chapel United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn F. Chelf Hampton; a daughter, Jan Spears of West Virginia; a stepdaughter, Debbie Tapscott of Liberty; two stepsons, David A. Bryant of Elizabethtown and Kevin R. Bryant of Alabama; a brother, James R. Hampton of Liberty; and six step grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home by Ed Parton. Burial will be in Wilson Cemetery.

Visitation will be after 6 p.m. Friday.

Barbara Howard

LANCASTER - Barbara Howard, 67, of Richmond Street, wife of Harvey J. Howard Jr., died Tuesday at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington. Arrangements are incomplete at Spurlin Funeral Home.

Gary Lay

LIBERTY - Gary Lay, 52, of Firestone, Colo., formerly of Liberty, died Thursday in Colorado.

Born May 22, 1951, in Casey County, he was the son of the late Raymond H. and Victoria A. Murphy Lay. He was a cabinet maker and general contractor.

Survivors include his wife, Judith L. Sheets Lay of Firestone; stepmother, Maxine Lay of Indiana; a son, Raymond Lay of Thornton, Colo.; a daughter, Nicole Lay of Saugus, Calif.; five brothers, Marshall Lay of Florida, John Lay, Glendon Lay and Terry Lay, all of Liberty, Preston Lay of Tennessee; five sisters, Betty Warner of Campbellsville, Emma Sutherlin of Missouri, Linda Helm of Somerset, Lecia True of Hustonville, and Shelia Hogue of Liberty; and four grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home by the Rev. Lee Whitman. Burial will be in Caney Fork Cemetery.

Visitation will be after 6 p.m. Thursday.
