I would like to comment on the most recent letter by Lori Stipe. You are right in one way: religion and politics don't mix. But showing or displaying a particular religious symbol on a vehicle - either privately owned or not - is not the issue, it's whether or not the person displaying it is doing their job or not. Obviously this officer was doing his job. He was helping you and what his religion is should not come into it.
This country was founded because the pilgrims came here for religious freedom. We are also (at least I thought we were) a country where people could be free to practice their religion without fear of someone saying, "You don't practice my faith, so you are wrong."
In my family, we are quite diverse in our religions. I had a great aunt who was a Catholic, my sister is a Mormon, I have an aunt who is a Jehovah's Witness, and I am a Babtist. Now tell me, Ms. Stipe, who in my family has the wrong religion?
