The residents of Danville and Boyle County have been exposed to an almost annual performance of excellence by those young people who excel in the various activities of organized school endeavors. The Danville High School Band was the uncontested champion within the state over a span of 20 years. The football teams of both school systems have been multiple winners of state titles. The Boyle County band has recently won two state division titles and continues on that same path this year. These are marks of excellence and demonstrate that those who are involved have been inspired to attain levels of accomplishment that speak well of their leaders and of the systems that support these various activities. We applaud them and stand alongside them in their quest for identity and accomplishment.
This year, we have, for the first time, observed one of our young men become the state champion of high school golf. Ben Fuqua grew up here. Many of us watched him mature and observed his determination to succeed. At times, he missed his goal and while feeling the pang of personal disappointment that accompanies any perceived failure, he never lost his desire to stand on the top of Mount Attainment. He is a champion.
