Though I am strong in my own religious beliefs, I cannot help but feel rejected by my community when I see such symbols displayed on government property. This is supposed to be a religiously diverse country, how is it right to be able to display one symbol and not another? Let's be honest, there wouldn't be so much support for the symbol if it were not a Christian symbol.
I have nothing against Christians personally and that is not what this letter is about. I just wanted to express my opinion that if it was a different religious symbol on the cruiser, there would be just as much, probably more, discontent from differing religions to have it removed. We do have the separation of church and state clause for a reason. Why can't we just honor it?
We can show our support for our religions without plastering it on government-owned property that people of all religions have paid for with our tax dollars.
