I've read the article about Junction City's problems. It seems to me that some of the council members could care less if there are no officers here. All the ideas that the citizens have tried to use have been knocked down. Now even (Police Chief) Jimmy Gipson is trying to come up with ways to save the cops and his ideas are being knocked down. It may not be a matter of $10,000 or $20,000 but every little bit helps.
Even with the sheriff's office and state troopers on call, that still doesn't make me feel any safer. If there is a call and the ones on call are out in the county or in another county, it could take then 30 minutes to respond to the call. A lot can happen in 30 minutes.
We maybe a fifth-class city and it may not be required that we have police protection, but we are human beings not animals and we deserve protection. What is the council going to take away from us next. The right to have fire protection.
