Ben Fuqua of Danville has been named Mr. Golf after winning the individual state high school championship last week in Morehead.
He is the first player from this area to be honored as Mr. Golf. Fuqua totaled 79.5 points, which are earned in invitational, regional and state tournaments. Second-place finisher Teddy Collins of Ballard had 73 points.
In addition to the state tournament, Fuqua's top finishes were in the the Madison Central Invitational (first) and the Somerset Invitational (third).
During the summer, Fuqua was runner-up in the Kentucky Junior Amateur Championship and won the championship division of the Musselman/Baker-Geary-Dunne Junior Tour.
