Purse stolen from country club

A purse containing jewelry and an undisclosed amount of cash was taken Saturday from Danville Country Club, city police said.

The purse, which belonged to Marlene Hale of Danville, contained, among other things, a diamond ring and a pair of diamond earrings. Hale reported the purse missing about 1 p.m.

Office Joedy Gilliland is investigating the theft by unlawful taking over $300 case.

Spencer County man dies in ATV accident

TAYLORSVILLE (AP) - A Spencer County man died Saturday of internal injuries suffered in an all-terrain vehicle accident.

State police said Jamie Mathis, 26, of Taylorsville, was at a friend's residence when he was thrown from his ATV after attempting a jump. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Crews locate missing Cessna plane

WAX (AP) - A single-engine plane was found in Nolin River Lake two days after it took off and disappeared with two men aboard.


Police were led to the crash site just north of Mammoth Cave National Park on Saturday morning after a utility worker reported a downed power line.

Divers found the Cessna 150 and the two occupants submerged in 21 feet of water near a boat ramp about 5 p.m. EDT.

State police identified the victims as Stanley J. Thompson, 48, of Cub Run, Ky., and Ricky L. Lee, 41, of Marysville, Ind.

The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board were investigating the crash.

The plane took off from Vine Grove about 6 p.m. Thursday with a stated destination of Owensboro.

Crews began searching for the plane Friday morning when a colleague reported one of the men did not arrive at work.|10/18/03***
