HARRODSBURG - A Harrodsburg man died Sunday night after his vehicle was struck by a train at the Jackson Pike crossing.
Jimmie Turpin, 50, was killed when his 2002 Chevrolet S-10 crossed the tracks with a train approaching, according to Kentucky State Police Trooper C.R. Hall. The collision occurred at 8:26 p.m.
Hall's report says no foul play or alcohol is suspected in the incident and all railroad crossing warning equipment was working properly prior to the collision. Hall is an accident reconstructionist and is the investigating officer. He also reported that Turpin was wearing a seat belt.
Assistant Mercer County Coroner Scott Moseley said Turpin was declared dead at the scene at 9:30 p.m. The cause of death is massive trauma, Moseley said, and no autopsy was deemed necessary. Turpin was the only person in the truck.
