LANCASTER - A mother and son who allegedly got into a scuffle with state police last month have been indicted by a Garrard County grand jury.
Richard D. Helton, 34, and Audrey B. Helton, 50, both of 4230 Hwy. 954, Paint Lick, were each charged with a number of offenses stemming from a series of events Sept. 7.
According to the indictment, Richard Helton is charged with assault, third-degree, because he allegedly "intentionally caused or attempted to cause physical injury to Trooper Chris Chenault ... by hitting him in the chest and face." Helton also is charged with criminal mischief, third-degree for allegedly causing $500 damage to the property of Chenault, resisting arrest, and first degree persistent felony of-fender.
Audrey Helton is charged with third-degree assault because she allegedly "intentionally caused or attempted to cause physical injury to Trooper Bill Collins ... by kicking him." Helton also is charged with resisting arrest and menacing.
