October 28, 2003

HARRODSBURG - The University of Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service, Kentucky Tourism Development Cabinet and Kentucky Farm Bureau will sponsor a one-day seminar, "Opportunities in Agritourism," from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Nov. 6 at Anderson Circle Farm on U.S. 127 north of Harrodsburg.

Agritourism is an economic activity that occurs when people link travel with agriculture products, services or experiences. It is also a way farm families can diversify their agriculture operation.

The keynote speaker for the seminar will be Joe Huber from Huber Family Farm and Restaurant in Starlight, Ind.

Huber, his wife, Bonnie, and five children purchased the farm from his father in 1967. Their operation now includes a U-Pick farm, farm market, a restaurant and gift shop.

Other topics include: Insurance for your agritourism business, permits and zoning, making a business plan and financing a new farm venture. The afternoon session will feature 15-minute roundtable discussions with established agritourism businesses sharing firsthand experiences.
