Everywhere in this country, Halloween has been designated as Oct. 31. Preprinted calendars list Halloween as Oct. 31. All areas in and around Danville are celebrating Halloween on Oct. 31. Why, then, is Danville celebrating Halloween on Thursday? I have lived here for 28 years and can count on one hand the number of times trick or treating actually coincided with Halloween in Danville.
Friday seems like the perfect night for trick or treating with no school the following day. Some have told me that Danville kids get to double-dip by going to the surrounding communities on a different night. Surely, greed is not the reason. Some have told me when Halloween falls on a church night, such as Wednesday or Sunday, it is changed. Some have told me it is because Friday night is a football night, but wouldn't Perryville and Junction City be interested in Boyle County football? I am confused. Can someone please enlighten me?
