JUNCTION CITY - Four acres of Jerry Tomlinson's property on U.S. 127 was rezoned highway commercial Monday by Junction City Council.
The vote was 4-0. Council member Jim Douglas didn't vote.
The council had denied the rezoning Oct. 13 because Tomlinson hadn't sold the property, didn't plan to develop it himself, and council members didn't know what kind of businesses would locate there. They were concerned because Junction City Baptist Church is about to build behind the property.
Douglas said in a telephone interview today that he thought Tomlinson should know what was going to be built on the property before it is rezoned. Douglas said he believes the land should be highway commercial.
The property had been zoned for agriculture, and the future land use map showed that it was going to be high-density residential, where apartment complexes or duplexes could be built.
