The Centre College men's and women's cross country teams are ranked second and third, respectively, in the NCAA Division III South Region entering this weekend's conference championships.
This is believed to be the highest ranking ever for either team since the Colonels began competing in the 1970s.
The men are ranked behind Emory, while the women trail Emory and Christopher Newport in the 36-team region.
"Our men and women just keep getting better," Centre coach Lisa Owens said. "They are highly motivated individuals who push each other every day. The sky's the limit for these runners."
The men have been paced by Mark Noll and Colin Muehlenkamp, with Eric Hack and Any Newsom not far behind. Noll and Muehlenkamp have taken turns placing first for the Colonels in meets this year.
The women are led by freshman sensation Eileen Schilling. The Louisville native has broken two course records already and holds the school record for the 5-kilometer run. The Lady Colonels have consistently placed 10 runners under 23 minutes in meets.
