Compton the candidate with true experience

November 02, 2003

Dear Editor:

Kudos to Mercer County clerk candidate Ronnie Compton for a job well done! He has run the most refreshing, clean campaign of the year.

While his yard signs were stolen, he remained positive and never said a negative word about his opponent. While his opponent took credit for every state project under the sun, even if he had nothing whatsoever to do with them, Ronnie never said a negative word. Ronnie even managed to call each and every one of the clerk's office staff to ensure them that their jobs were safe, while his opponent tried to scare them.

Ronnie Compton is the candidate with the true experience for the job of Mercer County clerk! He is the only candidate in the race who has personally dealt with the county clerk's office on a daily basis for 22 years, while his opponent jumped from employment with one scandalous governor to another. How does managing a farm that set state records as one of the largest bankruptcies ever, in one of the largest scandals ever, properly prepare one for a job as the Mercer County clerk?

Ronnie's opponent claims to have experience, however he could not answer one question during the recent election school without referring to the longtime deputy clerk for assistance. Ronnie's opponent also claims to have brought efficiency to the office, but doesn't efficiency mean knowing your job well enough to be able to operate a voting machine without having to get someone else to do it for you? Doesn't efficiency mean cutting costs in the office without having to hire people to help you do your job and get your records caught up? Doesn't efficiency mean actually showing up for work and not taking days off to perform your duties at your other government-appointed job?

How exactly has Mr. Harper benefited the office of Mercer County clerk?

Mercer County misses the most efficient county clerk it has ever had, Larry Short, but in his absence, I pick his choice for the next county clerk, Ronnie Compton, the candidate with true experience!
