A Somerset couple accused of attempting to sell their baby in November 2002, appeared at status hearings in Boyle Circuit Court this week.
Anthony Wayne Hart, 38, and his wife, Kathie Lee Hart, 35, appeared before Judge Darren Peckler Tuesday and Thursday, respectively, to allow attorneys to update the judge on the progression to trial. Peckler continued the process until Dec. 2, when both will appear for status hearings again.
Both are charged with attempting to sell a child for adoption, a Class D felony in Kentucky carrying a maximum penalty of five years in jail if convicted.
The couple allegedly asked for and accepted $3,000 as payment for their 3-month-old baby from a couple from Anderson County, who were in the process of adopting the baby. A sting operation was conducted in the parking lot of the Wal-Mart SuperCenter in Danville Nov. 30, 2002, by state and local police, and Pulaski County Sheriff's Department.
