Centre College men's soccer player David Hewitt of Lexington has been named to the College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-America first team in the South Region.
Hewitt is a senior midfielder for the Colonels, who finished with an 11-6-1 record. Hewitt was instrumental in the team's success leading the Colonels in scoring with 15 points on five goals and five assists, and he led the Colonels in six offensive categories.
"David is very deserving of this award," Centre coach Jeb Burch said. "At this school it is extremely difficult to balance the kind of class load that David takes and the kind of commitment it takes to be good in college soccer. He does them both well."
Hewitt is a pre-med major with a 3.60 GPA and participates in several on and off campus organizations, including Habitat for Humanity and Special Olympics.
