LEXINGTON - Recruiting contacts that Kentucky assistant coach Joker Phillips have in Georgia have paid off for Kentucky.
The Wildcats have picked up a verbal commitment from 195-pound safety-linebacker Wesley Woodyard of LaGrange, Ga.
Woodyard is not rated among the nation's top prospects, but his high school coach, Steve Pardue, thinks UK is getting a potential star.
"He can run the 40 (yard dash) in 4.5 (seconds) and he could play a lot of spots on defense because of his speed," Pardue said. "He likes to hit. He's a physical player and he will add weight when he gets to college. He's really improved from last year to this year, but his best football is still ahead of him."
Pardue said Phillips was the first to show significant interest in Woodyard and he visited UK when the Wildcats played Florida.
