STANFORD - Lincoln County Board of Education will extend its Christmas break deadline for repainting the high school gymnasium floor in hope of fixing a leaking roof, which some school board members said often leaves melted snow and rain standing on the gym floor.
According to P.D. Roller, director of buildings and grounds, the floor was due to be repainted during the long school holiday. Those plans changed after Superintendent Teresa Wallace and board members said they are worried a newly-painted floor would be ruined by the leaking roof.
"I don't know that you want to spend $20,000 on the floor before you fix the roof," Wallace said during a school board meeting Wednesday.
Water is getting into the gym through vents on the roof, which allow rain and snow to blow through. Roller said they were incorrectly installed when the high school was built.
