In regard to the story in Friday's paper about spending the money on the medals for the police officers and firefighters being too much and ridiculous, I think what is ridiculous is that these poeple on the city council don't seem to give a hoot about the people who are there to protect us. They put their lives on the line that day, and I think it's pretty awful that city council members seem to think you can put a price on that.
I personally think that $200 isn't enough to thank someone for saving a life and putting their life on the line. There was only one death in that fire, but if these men had not done what they did, there would have been several more.
When everything was said and done and their minds were made up to lay off these officers, they didn't get so much as a "thank-you." What they did get, though, was someone trying to put a price-tag on their lives. They sit and fuss about $200 honoring these men but can spend $44 on a lunch. I don't know what they bought for lunch that day but I can buy a week's worth food for $50. And then they wonder where the city's money is going.
