Kate Bennett of Centre College has been named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year in voting by the conference's head coaches.
Bennett received seven of nine first-place votes after hitting .215 and racking up 431 kills for an average of 2.97 a game. She also had 201 digs, 106 aces and 58 blocks.
She helped lead Centre to a fourth-place tie in the SCAC.
Jean Anne Babin of Sewanee received the remaining first place votes for the award.
Leah Ballinger, a junior setter, was named to the All-SCAC second team, and junior middle hitter Whitney Faust joined Bennett on the third team.
Trinity senior Shawn McLaughlin was named the player of the year and Trinity head coach Julie Jenkins received coach of the year honors.
